Buried somewhere in the Nintendo financial report that I didn’t read was an interesting revelation: Nintendo significantly increased sales forecasts for the Wii and Nintendo DS for the year ending March 31, 2008.
Initially, Nintendo had announced humble predictions of 14 million Wii consoles and 22 Nintendo DS handhelds to be sold worldwide from April 2007 through March 2008. Those numbers would have put the pair either on par or below that of the previous financial year. Now, however, the recent update to Nintendo’s financial report reveals a hefty increase in Nintendo’s forecasts. Expect to see Nintendo meet or exceed their new forecast of 16.5 million Wii units and 26 Nintendo DSs through March 2008. That should put the DS around the GBA’s lifetime figures, and the Wii a couple over the GameCube’s lifetime numbers.
