Symantec Security Response demonstrates in the video below a new vulnerability discovered in the Wii’s Internet Channel (as well as in FireFox and Safari browsers) that could potentially be dangerous. The bug has to do with Remote Code Execution by the Adobe Flash Player, and leaves an open door for malicious scripts and codes. Bug fixes and patches are available for PC and Mac users, but Wii owners will have to wait until Nintendo decides to address the issue directly.
I can’t remember offhand if Nintendo can update the downloaded Opera software via a WiiConnect24 move, or if they’d have to resort to informing owners to update their Internet Channel manually, but neither method can be used until Nintendo decides to actually update the channel’s version of Flash.
