Hold on to your seats, things could get messy.
A recent interview with Masahiro Sakurai, the director of the Super Smash Bros. games, confirms that the development team has indeed included the blue boy from Sega on the playable roster. As to whether or not he’s in the final product, well, that’s up to Sega.
C. Doriga: Are you going to include SEGA’s mascot, Sonic The Hedgehog?
Sakurai: Well… That’s a tough question, I’ll tell you that Sonic’s already in the game, but we’re still waiting for a last confirmation from SEGA. Due to the proximity of the game’s release, SEGA’s deadline to submit their confirmation is the 26th this month, and in that date the official site will be updated about the inclusion or not of SEGA’s mascot in the game. I’m personally crossing my fingers.
It’s no surprise that Sakurai listened to fan requests to include Sonic in the game, but it’s surprising that Sega didn’t immediately jump on the bandwagon once they heard about it. Looks like we’ll find out within the week if I can play as Sonic in Brawl this December.
UPDATE: LIES!! Confirmed fake. The wait continues.
UPDATE #2: Apparently, some people over at the Animal Crossing Community don’t believe the update. That’s understandable; I didn’t really explain. Several people at Nintendo’s official NSider forums pointed out mistakes in the text and that it couldn’t have been published in a Spanish magazine because of all the grammatical errors. Second, an image of ZSS that was in the scan was only revealed on the Smash Bros. site just days before and couldn’t have been published so quickly. On top of that, the person who created the fake magazine scan that this all stems from came right out and confessed that it was fake, not intending for it to spread like wildfire.
