Largely thanks to the recent debut of Dragon Quest Swords for the Wii, over 3 million units of Nintendo’s waggle console have now been sold on the company’s home turf.

This news come in just as Sony has been celebrating passing the 1 million mark in Japan. Sony had reported on Wednesday as having sold 1.01 million PlayStation 3 consoles since their November 11 launch. Wii figures were not yet available at the time, but it is now clear that 3.01 million Wii consoles have been sold since December 2nd.

In addition to Wii sales, the Nintendo DS had been reported to have surpassed the 18 million mark in Japan alone since its launch in December of 2004.
