The system can get quite hot while using WiiConnect24, as the system’s internal fans and cooling system are not in use when WiiConnect24 is on in standby mode. Users have reported damaged pixels or lines on the screen due to an overheated GPU or CPU. Nintendo UK claims they haven’t had many reports of this if any at all, and encourages Wii owners to let them know if it is indeed happening. Don’t just post and rant on internet message boards.

Wii owners in the UK should call the Nintendo Service Center at 0870 60 60247 if an overheating-related issue is experienced. Those in the United States should call 1-800-255-3700. The problem is not expected to be widespread, and maybe related to the fact that not quite 100% of manufactured parts will operate as intended.
