Canadian gym incoporates Wii Sports into exercise program

Studeo 55 is a gym and fitness club in Vancouver, Canada. It may have just become the most appealing on the continent to gamers.

The fitness club has added a Wii workout station, citing that a session of Wii Sports is the equivalent of a brisk walk, in terms of the calories it can burn. The gym encourages its members to use the Wii station as part of regular circuit training, or as warm-up or cool-down. At least one former Olympic swimmer is impressed by the console.

“I’m not a video game person … So at first, it was like, ‘I don’t get it.’ But it didn’t take me long to get into it and actually break a sweat,” says Kim Bey. “I’ve been training so damn hard all my life that nothing fazes me. Nothing. But this was like, ‘Wow!’ I think what you put into it is what you’re going to get out of it, just like all the other apparatuses in a gym.”

I guess the Wii really does make people say “Wow!” Maybe we might see more and more gyms across North America incorporate the Wii into their workout stations, especially once Wii Fit is released.
