Well, I guess this answers one mystery. Zero Suit Samus is a transformation of the “regular” Samus, but unlike Melee’s Zelda/Shiek, you can’t exactly switch back and forth at will. At least, it seems highly unlikely.

When Samus gets the Smash Ball, she can then unleash the Zero Laser at maximum charge, a devastatingly powerful attack that will send all affected opponents’ damage meters through the roof. There’s just one problem. The Final Smash destroys Samus’ Power Suit, leaving her as Zero Suit Samus. ZSS has a new set of attacks and a new weapon, and her speed should be even higher. In addition, Samus (and all other characters on the field) can pick up the remains of her Power Suit and throw them at opponents as damaging projectiles!
