It seems that the final version of the Internet Channel by Opera on the Wii contains a version of Flash Player that was recently discovered to have a vulnerability. Hackers could potentially use this exploitation to execute harmful scripts and code on the Wii consoles that access such scripts, but it’s more likely that they’ll simply use the loophole to run homebrew games on the system.
The problem can be patched by Nintendo as soon as the company pays Adobe for the newest version of Flash Player, which may or may not take a while. Given Nintendo’s stance on piracy, however, the problem is not likely to remain unfixed, as it allows for the potential of pirated games being played on the system.
