Wii to play hard-to-get this holiday season

While the first half of 2007 hasn’t been spectacular for Wii game releases, the console itself has been flying off the shelves faster than Nintendo can produce the little cash calf. If WiiSports, Mario Party 8, and Pokémon Battle Revolution can do that, imagine what the combo of Mario Strikers Charged, High School Musical: Sing It!, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Boogie, Madden NFL ’08, Fire Emblem, Dance Dance Revolution: Hottest Party, Super Mario Galaxy, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and more could do!

Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like Wii sales will reach their full potential this holiday season. Despite a lineup that could move millions of Wii consoles, hardware production will still be at a point this holiday season where it’ll be tough to find the system. Here’s what Nintendo’s George Harrison had to say.

“There is no guarantee that we are not going to have ‘out-of-stocks’ this holiday season. If you see one, buy it. Don’t assume that you can come back later and find one.”

“We’re trying to figure out what’s the reasonable monthly level, and as we’ve seen every time we ship product to the market, whether it’s in Japan or here in the U.S. or in Europe, it sells out in a matter of days.”

Oh well. There’s always next year. You know, when all the games bigger than Mario and Smash Bros. are coming out.
