Eiji Aonuma was interviewed for the latest Nintendo Power issue, in which he makes it clear that Nintendo won’t let the Wii alienate the core gamer. It’s because of those gamers that Nintendo has become what it is.
It’s because of gamers that games have come as far as they have… it’s not Nintendo’s intent to alienate those people… We think we can involve everyone – people who played games in the past because the approach is so new, and people who were never gamers.
Of course, Nintendo does want to try and be inclusive, and expand the market to those who aren’t core gamers. He wants you to be able to anticipate a new approach by Nintendo. You may have made Nintendo what it is today, but your grandma is making Nintendo what it will be tomorrow.
