Long time Tanooki readers (all 3 of you) might remember this game taking up one of the prized spots in my “Top 7 Wii games to look forward to in 2007″ list. Well, time flies by pretty fast, and 2K Sports’ arcadey baseball title The Bigs should be arriving in stores sometime on Monday.
Ever since my fantasy baseball draft day in March, I have been craving some quality baseball action on the Wii. Don’t get me wrong, I love Wii Sports Baseball, but with only 3 innings and no fielding controls, the game is simply a tease for what can be possible with the Wii.
As expected, The Bigs has been receiving a few mixed reactions, with one of the major gripes being a half second delay between your swing and the on-screen player’s swing. Aside from that, most other aspects seem to be shaping up quite nicely. The pitching system is a step above Wii Sports’ by allowing you to add your own desired amount of spin to a pitch, which should make for some fantastic pitching duels. I’m also excited for the Rookie Challenge mode that allows you to create your own player and bring him up through the majors through a series of challenges.
With Monday quickly approaching, I am starting to get that giddy feeling that I rarely get for a game. The Bigs looks like it will finally fill in that baseball void on the Wii, and what do you know, it might even be a home run…
