This week’s update brings us the fourth stage officially revealed for Super Smash Bros. Brawl. While the stage looks pretty simple, it’s bigger than it looks – it’s almost as wide as Melee‘s “Final Destination,” and sports three upper platforms for all your jumping pleasure. In addition, the scenery is just beautiful. Welcome to Lylat Cruise.
The ship featured in the Lylat Cruise stage is called the Pleiades. If you’re into Astronomy half as much as I am, you’ll know the ship is named after the star cluster of the same name, which is in turn named after the seven daughters of Atlas and Pleione in Greek mythology. We’ll be brawling on board the cruise ship as it warps through space, dodging laser fire from enemy fighters and steering into asteroid fields (they’d be crazy to follow us, wouldn’t they?). Eventually the Pleiades will enter the Cornerian atmosphere and the heat shield burns with an orange glow before you enter the beautiful blue skies of Corneria itself.
Mr. Sakurai says you shouldn’t concern yourself as to how the characters are breathing in space without spacesuits or standing and jumping without gravity.
