Raiding Pirates: ELSPA busts criminals in England
Yesterday in the Billingham and Lingdale areas near England, the ELSPA successfully raided several video game pirate centers with the help of the Cleveland Police Economic Crime Unit and Stockton Police. Officials seized modded Wii, DS, Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, and PSP game systems as well as modchips and modified games. Three pirates were caught and arrested at three different locations.
“We were delighted with the outcome of this operation, finding and bringing criminals to book. We now call on all police and trading standards authorities to act with the same level of commitment in order to protect legitimate businesses and consumers against these exploitative criminals,” said Michael Rawlinson, Managing Director at ELSPA.
Anti-Piracy raids such as these are done not only to protect the game sales that publishers deserve, but also to protect the people – the consumers – from having to buy low quality, pirated products.
