We post all the time about cool, licensed Nintendo toys and products in Japan, but rarely do we ever see anything of that caliber in North America, Europe, Australia, or pretty much anywhere else. That might change at least a little bit in the next few years, thanks to Corgi.

Corgi International Ltd. has made a deal with Nintendo of America to release toys and collectibles based on Nintendo properties such as Super Mario, Donkey Kong, and the Legend of Zelda through 2010. According to Toy News International, the product list includes action figures, playset environments, FX electronic products, iconic game replicas, multi-sized plush, vinyl figures, and more.

“We are excited to enter this agreement with Nintendo as they are certainly at the forefront of developing cutting edge products and gaming technologies that we feel would translate perfectly into exciting product ranges. These ranges certainly fit into the wide demographic that the company currently creates product for, and with our product development expertise and our strong distribution, we believe that the license will prove a popular addition to the company’s portfolio,” said Corgi CEO, Michael Cookson.

Nintendo of America’s Gail Tilden added, “Nintendo looks forward to collaborating with Corgi International on an amazing range of products that will cater to fans of all ages. We know that our fans will be excited to see our popular franchises brought to life in a whole new way.”

    About time, I say.

I love buying Nintendo merch, but it’s next to impossible to find things in stores, especially in Canada. I buy most of my Ninty stuff online, but it’ll be much nicer (and cheaper) to finally be able to pick these things up in stores.

    My wallet just said “thanks.”

Hopefully our stuff will be as good as the fun stuff found in import stores- and now on my desk…
