Rumors resurface: Pilotwings and Kid Icarus

These rumors have been making rounds, so I might as well inform you of them. First up, Pilotwings for the Wii was listed on GameStop for release at some point several months ago before being taken down. However, the game is listed once again for eventual release. While GameStop listings are never official confirmations of games existing and especially never of release dates, we somehow manage to eventually see most of the games they list on store shelves. Could a new Pilotwings be on the way?

Next up, a Retro Studios fan site is reporting that once Retro is completely finished with the Metroid Prime trilogy, we should be seeing work on their next big project. N-Retro reports that this is a Kid Icarus game for the Wii. They list the rumor as having “normal” credibility, and it makes sense for several reasons. First, Metroid and Kid Icarus were two games that originated from Gunpei Yokoi’s R&D1 team back in the day. They’re often viewed as sister series – in fact, they used the same game engine. Furthermore, it would almost be poetic that Nintendo would decide to revive the franchise after Pit’s appearance and new look in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, especially after Samus seemingly came back into the spotlight after the first Super Smash Bros. (It had been years since Super Metroid, and Metroid 64 was seemingly canned.)

Could we be seeing these games pop up on the Wii? They’re both just rumors, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see one or both of these rumors come true.
