Bill McCollum spoke in a yet-to-air Fox News interview concerning Rockstar’s new Manhunt 2 game for the Wii. The Florida Attorney General is concerned that the game will train players to be violent. He’s not worried about the PS2 or PSP versions so much, it’s the Wii version they’re after. The Wii version, through its motion sensitive controls, is said to replicate murderous motions and actions according to McCollum.
McCollum was apparently prompted to take a stance upon receiving a letter from a little known Jack Thompson. “Florida retailers are scheduled to sell a very violent video game called Manhunt 2 which will be available, remarkably, for ‘play’ on the kids-friendly Nintendo Wii gaming platform … utilizes hand-held motion capture devices… It is a training device,” says Thompson in the letter.
Rockstar’s getting what it wants though – free publicity for Manhunt 2. While we’re at it, let’s publicize the Wii a bit more as well. Sounds good to me.
