Zelda II: The Adventure of Link heads to VC on Monday
The (first) black sheep of the Zelda series that we’ve all been waiting for is heading to the Wii’s Virtual Console this Monday in North America.
In a press release I’m about to post right after this, Nintendo confirms that Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (NES) will be posted on the Virtual Console this Monday, making it the 100th game added to the North American Virtual Console service thus far, and the fourth Zelda game across three past Nintendo consoles to hit the VC, following The Legend of Zelda (NES), The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES), and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64). This adventure takes Link on a new journey unlike any other 2D Zelda game, as Zelda II is known for taking the series into a sidescrolling action-adventure rather than the traditional top-down perspective. Fans unfamiliar to the game might like to know that this game introduced usable magic into the series, and may contain some familiar names if you’ve played Ocarina of Time.
Unfortunately, they’re not changing the name to “The Legend of Zelda: Adventure of Link” so that it would, you know, match the entire rest of the series. That’s alright though. Anyway, four down and one Zelda game left to go on the Virtual Console – that is, until they start adding Game Boy games…
