It seems that Taiwanese company Gemtek Technology is working with Nintendo to produce and distribute Nintendo/Wii-branded WLAN routers later this year. Sources claim that monthly shipments could reach up to 50,000 router units each month in the latter half of this year. Production rates of its WLAN modules for the Wii have already been increased, with the company expecting to ship 2 million units this year, contrasting to 1.2 million units in 2006.
This news is according to several market sources, however, as Gemtek declined to comment on the report.
