The return of the Super Mario Bros. papercraft

Published by matthew under Arts & Crafts

mario73.jpg

A month or so ago, reader Timothy put together a small, but swell, Super Mario Bros. papercraft. Well he’s back at it again, this time with a much more elaborate diorama of World 7-3. As before, Tim has posted all the cutouts on his site so you can whip up your own whenever future boredom strikes.

I’m impressed with the huge leap in quality between his two papercrafts. It makes me curious to see what he has in store for us next…

Smash Bros. site updates with Wario’s Special Moves

Published by Christian under Wii

Two of Wario’s special moves were revealed today. The first special move is his side special move, called Wario Chopper. He’ll jump on his motorcycle from the WarioWare games and start driving around the stage. You can use the control stick to move him in one direction, then tilt the other way to do a quick 180-degree turn towards the other direction. If you want to get off the bike, you can simply use the attack button to jump off. You can’t go summon another motorcycle though while leaving your other one on the stage. Only one bike can be on stage, so you’ll have to jump back on if you want to use it.

Wario’s down special move (and we mean special) is the Wario Waft. Now, if you go farting all over the place, all you’re going to get is a “cute little poot,” as Sakurai puts it. However, good things come to those who wait… if you’re Wario. Hold it in by not using this attack for a long period of time, and its power will build up automatically. and then… KA-BLOOIE!

Let us know how they are, or discuss it in the forums!

Japanese hardware sales, June 18 - June 24

Published by Christian under Sales Figures, Nintendo DS, Wii

japsales.jpg

So the DS skyrocketed this week, likely due to the release of The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. That game is selling like hotcakes right now. Other than that, and a significant drop for the 360 that was expected due to a spike last week, pretty much everything else remained consistent from last week.

  • DSL: 163,888 (+45,204)

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption box art revealed

Published by Christian under Wii

And here it is, folks! The final box art for Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, courtesy of Nintendo!

Whatcha think? It sort of reminds me of the Sonic Adventure 2 box art for the Dreamcast. Ah, great games have similarly great box art, I guess.

Lightsaber game from LucasArts on the way

Published by Christian under Wii

070628obimaul.jpg

You know you’ve thought about it. From the month of September 2005 when the “Revmote” was unveiled, you’ve been wondering what a lightsaber game for the Wii would be like. Well, Jim Ward, LucasArts president had this to say when asked about a lightsaber game for the Wii:

“We’re all over that, and internally we have already played a lightsaber game on the Wii. It’s a lot of fun, and we’ll get there. [The concept of a lightsaber game on the Wii is] in place! There’ll be some stuff out this Fall - it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Who’s excited?

Aonuma assures, Wii won’t alienate gamers

Published by Christian under Wii

070628aonuma.jpg

Eiji Aonuma was interviewed for the latest Nintendo Power issue, in which he makes it clear that Nintendo won’t let the Wii alienate the core gamer. It’s because of those gamers that Nintendo has become what it is.

It’s because of gamers that games have come as far as they have… it’s not Nintendo’s intent to alienate those people… We think we can involve everyone - people who played games in the past because the approach is so new, and people who were never gamers.

Of course, Nintendo does want to try and be inclusive, and expand the market to those who aren’t core gamers. He wants you to be able to anticipate a new approach by Nintendo. You may have made Nintendo what it is today, but your grandma is making Nintendo what it will be tomorrow.

Smash Bros. site updates with Names, Customized Controls

Published by Christian under Wii

Guess what! You can enter your name into Super Smash Bros. Brawl! Yay!

070628smash1.jpg  070628smash2.jpg

Of course, further into today’s update, you realize why names are so significant. Brawl will support customizable controller configurations. You can set the game’s controls to whatever buttons you like, and save your settings to your name. You can even save multiple configurations to different names. Want to special attack on the Wii remote with A instead? Go right ahead!

All four control schemes (remote, remote/nunchuk, Classic, GameCube) are customizable. In fact, Sakurai’s considering allowing you to save your name to your remote’s memory so that you can play with your own control configuration at your friend’s house!

Of course, it doesn’t come with instructions for Pokémon Origami, but at least all those cranes you make will have Bidoof all over them.
