Who’s picking this up? Word is that while the game won’t blow you away, it’s a great addition to the Mario Party series, and a worthy first entry on the Wii. Official press release below:

DID YOU KNOW? NINTENDO’S MARIO PARTY 8 BRINGS THE CARNIVAL TO TOWN
May 29, 2007

Nintendo is bringing the carnival to town, and this time the party is going to get players up and moving. Mario Party® 8 is the first Mario Party game for Wii™ from Nintendo, and the first in the series to incorporate motion controls.

In this carnival-themed excursion, players might use the Wii Remoteâ„¢ to punch the air to chip away at a statue, point it at the screen to shoot at targets or balance it like a tightrope walker’s pole. The amazing functions of the Wii Remote add a new level of hilarious competition. This new Mario Party installment includes new boards, characters, moves and minigames.

Since the original Mario Party debuted in 1999 on Nintendo® 64, the franchise has been a perpetual fan favorite, selling nearly 6.5 million in the United States alone. It’s the video game version of a board game, where each player takes a turn moving spaces. Then everyone competes in a fast-paced minigame at the end of the round. Its controls are fun and easy enough that every member of the family can join in. Mario Party 8 lets players get into the action like never before, and is a great follow-up for gamers and families who had fun competing in Wii Sportsâ„¢.

Mario Party 8, Rated E for Everyone, launches May 29. For more information about Mario Party 8, please visit www.MarioParty.com.

  • I hope that it all goes well for you, I'm sure it will. The $10 off is a very interesting way for them to lure shoppers away from that chain of pre-order pushing stores. You know the ones I'm talking about.
  • drktrpr1
Well whatever I'm going in tomorrow at 2PM to either a)pick it up $10 cheaper or b)bitch about it if they don't have it.
  • Hooya
I think the basic gist of the "guarantee" is just this: we'll probably have it in stock, but if we don't we still got you in the store (and you won't get anything free).
  • Well...several people said that the wording made it impossible to collect a gift card. Multiple reports of:

    1) We didn't mean THIS Wednesday

or (this one happened more often)

    2) We HAD it at 2pm, we sold out.

I think that people thought that it was an in stock guarantee, but really they are only promising that they will have it.

    Confused? Me too! lol
  • I'll tell you who isn't getting it today: the whole of Europe. Just like we haven't got Paper Mario.

The $10 discount is in-store as well. The ad also says "Guaranteed in-store Wednesday 2PM or get a $20 gift-card."

What does that actually mean, those that were fooled by it last time?

    "BRINGS THE CARNIVAL TO TOWN"

    Hehe... Carnival Games...
  • Is that $10 discount online only?

I have been weary of Circuit City after the whole Super Paper Mario debacle. I know it seems silly to be stubborn about it but that "free $20 gift card" non-promo was sneaky.

Though it's coming out today, a reminder that Circuit City's $10 discount on the game starts tomorrow.
