The highly anticipated Mario Strikers Charged launched in Europe yesterday, becoming the first Wii game outside of Japan to officially go online. Early on, things seemed to be going smoothly for the Wii’s first online experience. However, as the day went on, more reports were coming in that the Wii gave players error codes after several attempts to connect to the network.
While I don’t know how many copies of the game have sold in Europe since its launch yesterday, it’s safe to assume that with well over a million Wiis across Europe that the Wii’s anticipated first online game added extremely heavy amounts of traffic to Nintendo’s Wi-Fi Connection servers. As of right now, though, the Nintendo Wi-Fi site says that the global network is operational, so hopefully everyone in Europe is finally getting to enjoy the game with all their friends online.
Hopefully Nintendo was able to clean up the problem swiftly, and we won’t be seeing the same issues when Pokémon Battle Revolution comes out in North America. It may not have been a great first day in Europe, but let’s focus on the positive: Nintendo’s home console is finally online (outside of Japan)!
