Wii production up, shortages still expected through ‘07
Colin Sebastian of Lazard reported from Nintendo’s Media Summit earlier this week on Nintendo’s ability to satisfy demand. Based on information from both retailers as well as Nintendo itself, Sebastian has reason to believe Nintendo is near or at their production goal increase to 1.5 million Wii units being produced monthly. But is it enough?
According to Sebastian, probably not. “Based on our retail channel checks, demand still appears to exceed supply, and we believe that shortages could persist through the remainder of the year, including the key holiday period.
For comparison, the DS Lite is being produced at a rate of 2.5 million units per month.
