Ubisoft to publish Beowulf game

At their recent event in Paris, Ubisoft revealed that they will be publishing a game based on Paramount’s movie adaptation of Beowulf being directed by Robert Zemeckis. For those unfamiliar with Beowulf, it’s a classic, epic poem from around the 9th century in which a warrior named Beowulf protects the people of Heorot from three monsters. It’s been a while since I had to read it… in its original form… in my high school AP English class, but it was a fun story.

Of course there’s not much information yet on either the new movie or the games, so we’ll just have to take Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot’s word for it when he says “it will be an amazing game.” It hasn’t been confirmed for any platforms yet, either, but as a game based on a licensed movie/poem property, I think it’s pretty safe to assume it will hit every major platform.

I’m both amazed/excited and saddened/disheartened for this game. The story of Beowulf is amazing, but it is a game based on a movie…
