This is still an unconfirmed case, but reports are saying that some DS Lite models purchased when the system first launched in Japan in March of last year are showing signs of aging. Some owners are complaining that picture quality has since deteriorated and that screens are showing a noticeable yellow tint.
While unconfirmed, things like problems popping up well into the life of a device isn’t unheard of, especially when a company like Nintendo generally can’t test these things for several years before releasing them to the public. The DS Lite was released in Japan a mere 16 months after the original DS came out. However, I’ve never heard of screens turning yellow like this.
If true, this could mean the insanely popular handheld with its gargantuan userbase will start to notice yellow screens over the next year. Actually, you know what? I just turned on my DS Lite, and while the bottom screen isn’t clearly “yellow,” it’s definitely an impure white when compared to the top screen. I don’t remember if it’s always been like that or if this is really a new problem, though luckily my warranty still covers me through September sometime. Anyone else care to comment on their DS Lite screens?
