
I’m not an expert on computer hardware specs, so I’m not going to pretend like I am. I do, however, understand the basic components, units of measurement, and when one number is larger than the other. Newsweek’s N’Gai Croal investigates the facts in response to the claims from competitors that Nintendo’s newest console isn’t even on par with the original Xbox.
Speaking with developers who have become familiar with the system, Croal demonstrates that while the Wii is indeed more powerful than the original Xbox, the difference is so minuscule that perhaps the comments from Microsoft’s Robbie Bach shouldn’t be dismissed so quickly. However, the developers interviewed make it even clearer that Nintendo wasn’t just taking a random gamble with the Wii. The Wii is so cost efficient that there really aren’t any downsides for Nintendo in releasing it or for publishers putting out games for it.
