DS Phat Opera browser to be available online only

Owners of the original Nintendo DS looking forward to the Opera browser (available June 4th) better make sure they have their credit or debit cards ready. It seems as though the Opera browser made for the original Nintendo DS will only be available through online sellers, such as the Nintendo Online Store or possibly the Amazon, Best Buy, EB Games websites. The only real difference is the RAM cartridge that will insert into your DS’s Slot 2 – the one you need is the only one big enough to fit in yours.

The DS Lite version, also due out June 4th, will be available in retail stores across North America. This version will come with a cartridge small enough to fit the DS Lite’s Slot 2 perfectly. Why the difference in availability? Well, aside from the facts that the original Nintendo DS is no longer being sold and that most DS system out in the wild are now DS Lites, it makes sense to make the more widely available version the one you want people to buy…especially if you can get those DS owners who have yet to upgrade to the DS Lite to do so.

Both versions of the browser will cost you about $34.99 each.
