Wii – good for the industry

Make up your minds! One analyst from IDC, Billy Pidgeon, suggests that the Wii’s success and direction could be good for the industry. Gone are the N64 and GC days of receiving nothing but ports from third parties. No, this time, those same third parties are embracing the efforts needed to produce a quality title on Nintendo platforms. Why? Because they’re selling.

“The Wii and the DS raise the challenge with alternative interfaces, and publishers with titles that are optimized for those interfaces have the best opportunity to leverage the broader installed base for the DS and for the potentially broader base of the Wii….Nintendo’s success in bringing video games to a wider audience is a strong positive for the entire games industry. On a basic level, more gamers means more sales.”
