Harry Potter Wii a step ahead of other versions

While we’d all like to see more original games on the Wii, there’s no doubt we’ll still be seeing a number of multiplatform games for the system. In such cases, we can only hope the developers put the time into thoughtful mapping of Wii controls so that the game is intuitive and fun, rather than simply a gimmick. For the new Harry Potter game, that seems to be the case.

By drawing your wand, spells can be quickly cast with the flick of the wrist. Thrusting forward with the remote will push objects away from you, and raising both the remote and nunchuk is as good as chanting out “Wingardium Leviosa!” At that point, you can move the Wii remote around to manipulate objects in mid-air.

While I really wish a game like this had some type of microphone support, I suppose we’ll reach that point in due time. I mean, we’ll already have the wand – the only thing left for pure Harry Potter interaction is getting the kids to actually use the Latin-based commands. I’d bet they’d do it with Dan or Emma’s accent too.
