Wii, Harbinger For The Death Of Gaming

Andrew Groen of Cinema Blend has an article up on how the Wii could potentially “ruin” gaming as we know it. While I don’t think the end result will be quite as extreme, Groen makes some good points as to the lack of quality AAA titles coming from Nintendo in terms of quantity, and how Nintendo fans don’t demand more. With the Wii flying off store shelves, Nintendo will begin to think that this strategy is OK.

Nintendo can swear up and down that they don’t plan to alienate the hardcore gamer with Wii, but that doesn’t make it true. I’m sure they don’t want to alienate us, but they’ll do it anyways. Their past two home consoles have been almost exclusively a casual affair. It’s textbook Nintendo. The N64 and Gamecube were virtually identical. Nintendo churns out a handful of in-house classics for the devoted fans, and after that…silence, darkness, and then death.

Of course, there are several other claims to disagree with, such as Nintendo not caring for quality in games, or the clear dislike of Disney Channel properties. Aside from that, it’s just another perspective to look at and think about. Head on over to CB for the full article.
