Pokémon banned in Kansas schools

Apparently, the Kansas Board of Education has banned all Pokémon games, trading cards, and other merchandise from schools. Many religious groups were protesting allowing the games in school since, as we all know, Pokémon seems to support the concept of evolution. Religious parents and leaders are demanding that schools confiscate any Pokémon games or cards found with students. Apparently, these same groups have organized protests involving burning games and cards.

Seriously, now. I follow some religious beliefs like I’m sure many of you do. But this is insane. I don’t mean to offend anyone’s religion, but evolution happened. We may still be figuring out the exact details behind evolution, but it happened. Look at the evidence. Regardless, Pokémon doesn’t demonstrate the theory of evolution as it is in real life anyway. These religious parents are offering programs to “rescue” them from their Pokémon addictions and working to make them Pokémon-free for the rest of their lives. If you ask me, the kids aren’t the ones with an obsessive problem.

Hey, long time reader of the site, love how often it is updated, keeps me coming back often.

Anyway, I also follow religious beliefs, as you do.. but like many things that we have believed (the earth is flat, etc.), I have a hard time believing that evolution happened in the way that it is taught. I think there’s too much evidence for and against to make a defining statement like “It happened.” Trust me, in my 26 young years, I’ve gone from one end of the spectrum to the other when it comes to the topic, and have done more research on it in the last five years that has made it harder and harder to make a statement like that.

On the topic of the game being banned from schools… That’s pretty ridiculous. Just because it’s calling something “Evolution” doesn’t mean that is what is occuring. I relate it more like a caterpillar becoming a butterfly, than a creature making a strange and major leap from a velociraptor to a bird.

All I am going to say is that I’m mormon about the religious bit. And about the banned stuff, you know when pokèmon first came out and everything and it was REALLY big and I mean REALLY big, my elementary school banned it because the only thing people were doing at all times during school was trading pokèmon cards. Now I am dead serious about this first thing I saw when I went through the doors for recess was groups of people scattered all over the pavement with their pokèmon cards out. And people kept on bringing binders filled with em too and htis all happened unitl the principal banned them. For me thats when pokèmon went down hill, for the shows that is the games still rock.

look, no matter what you’re beliefs are, it’s a stretch to say that pokemon is teaching kids about evolution. pokemon is about as big a threat to religion as harry potter is.

I perfectly agree drktrpr1 I mean those people who think the Harry Potter or Pokèmon are anti-god or devil worship or whitch craft or what ever are just plain arrogant and stupid.
