With the Guitar Hero rights now in the hands of developer Activision (with original publisher, RedOctane), Guitar Hero’s original developer, Harmonix, has been busy working on a new music game. Early today, that game was revealed as Rock Band for the 360 and PS3. Harmonix has partnered with MTV and Electronic Arts to bring a new game to the table - one that will allow you to start your own virtual band using the two guitar controllers, a drum controller, and a microphone! The game’s track listing hasn’t been revealed yet, but EMI Music Publishing and Warner/Chappell Music are opening up their massive catalog of songs for the project, which spans over 5 recording labels. Rock Band will land on the 360 and PS3 this Christmas.

So it’s coming to the 360 and PS3. What about the Wii? Well, Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos was asked whether or not Nintendo’s little engine that could would have a chance of eventually carrying the new Rock Band title. Rigopulos gave a confident “Absolutely.” Whether or not the Wii version will be released alongside the other versions remains to be seen (but seems unlikely), but Rigopulos made it very clear that Rock Band will eventually arrive on all major platforms. It’s just a matter of when.
