Last month, Vintage Computing and Gaming pondered that question all of us have wondered about at one point or another: Just how many Nintendo games have the affixes “Super,” “64,” “Advance,” or “DS” somewhere in the title? Except this time, they had the initiative to actually find out the answer. Take a look at their findings:
- 60 out of 715 games, or 8% of the entire licensed U.S. SNES catalog has a name that is derived from “Super Nintendo.â€
- 47 out of 291 games, or 16% of the entire licensed U.S. N64 catalog has a name that is derived from “Nintendo 64.â€
- 55 out of 975 games, or 6% of the entire licensed U.S. Game Boy Advance catalog (as of 02/08/2007) has a name that is derived from “Game Boy Advance.â€
- 31 out of 294 games, or 11% of the entire licensed U.S. Nintendo DS catalog (as of 02/08/2007) has a name that is derived from “Nintendo DS.â€
It’s not a pattern you see with many games on Atari, Sega, Sony, or Microsoft platforms… yet it happens with Nintendo games. Thankfully, they don’t think we’ll be seeing many games with “Wii” in the title, as WiiSports and WiiMusic don’t seem to have very trendy names. Head on over to check out exactly which games follow the naming patterns.
