Wii browser designers talk web searches and USB keyboards
Nintendo of America released a partial list of features to be added to the Internet Channel before its final release. However, the Japanese Wii site has a round table interview with the development staff behind the Wii browser, which in addition to the videos confirm a few more features and interesting information.
The videos on Nintendo of Japan’s site show an improved zoom feature, allowing for multiple levels of zoom in between the two levels we had before to levels of zoom far closer than we ever had. In addition, the scrolling speed can now be adjusted. Those of you with a clickable mouse wheel know you can click it on a page and pull the mouse down slightly to scroll slowly, and pull the mouse down further to speed up scrolling. The Opera browser on the Wii now works the same way.
Also, Wired’s Chris Kohler translates the interviews for us, revealing that while the development team was not able to implement the use of a USB keyboard for the browser’s final release, it’s definitely a feature they want to be thinking about for the future of the browser. We may yet see a USB keyboard for the Wii, albeit not anytime soon.
