The Zelda timeline has baffled many of us fans at one point or another, with a split timeline all but being confirmed a few years ago.
The Hylia’s TSA, however, has up until this week remained a supporter of the single timeline theory, until the events in The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, coupled with a translated interview with Eiji Aonuma, helped him to realize that the Zelda universe does indeed have a split timeline, following the events of Ocarina of Time.
What you may or may not have realized, however, is that while both The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess have references to a great hero (that many of us believed referred to the “adult” timeline in Ocarina of Time), Eiji Aonuma confirmed that the events in The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess occur, in fact, in separate, parallel timelines.
Whoa, whoa, wait a minute. While the “child” timeline of Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask seemingly could set up the villain’s backstory in Twilight Princess, who’s the hero being referred to then? Certainly not Link from Ocarina of Time or Majora’s Mask… Looks like we’ll have to wait for another Zelda game to piece together the puzzle further.
On a side note, Aonuma said he’d consider bringing Midna back in future Zelda games if fans voiced their support. Go voice your support.
