EHS Winter Line performs Mario, Zelda, Double Dragon

This past Saturday, Matt and my old high school hosted their home Winter Guard competition. You can view their last 2 shows, including the performance from this Saturday here. It’s always fun to watch a Winter Guard competition, since being a member of the marching band, you know the Color Guard is there on the field, but you have too many things to worry about on your own to be able to notice everything they do. When they do their own thing in the winter, though, you get to see it all.

At those Winter Guard competitions, some schools have a Winter Line (indoor drumline). Our didn’t, but I always saw a couple schools that did. Regardless, I don’t think my high school’s guard or band ever did a winter show like this – at least not when I was there. I had seen one school’s perform a Mario show once, but of course I was picky and thought they could’ve done much more with the idea. Apparently, one high school recently did another video game-themed Winter Line show, based on The Legend of Zelda, Double Dragon, and finishing with Super Mario Bros. The line has a few note issues and choreography with the battery, but from a gamer perspective, it’s simply fun. Check out the video below:

Typical bloody drum line, they can ruin anything, can’t they? It’s bad enough when they insist on having a drum solo in a proper show, but tapping away as loud as they can INDOORS… it’s just white noise.

I should point out that in the 10 years I marched in bands/drum corps I was always in the horn line.

Has anyone got a video of a horn line warming up to video game music? Maybe F-Zero tuning? ;)
