Nintendo Europe’s Laurent Fischer spoke with GamesIndustry.biz about the Wii’s production and sales. During the conversation, Fischer explained that just about six million units were out in circulation and it’s still not enough to satisfy the huge demand out there. He did specify, however, that Nintendo intends to increase their production capacity of the Wii, just like they’ve been forced to do with the DS on multiple occasions.
Fischer says the insane amount of demand means that Nintendo’s strategy to reach a larger market is working. I know it’s working around here – I was walking home the other night when a group of people behind us was just randomly talking about the Wii, and how they haven’t really played games since the Super Nintendo or Sega, and that they wanted Wiis really bad.
