GameSpy again providing online multiplayer technology
In 2005, GameSpy and Nintendo finally brought online play to the Nintendo DS by allowing Mario Kart DS to use their partnership’s brand new wireless network. Now, GameSpy has announced that they will again be providing the tools necessary for developers to get their Wii games online.
The new middleware developed by GameSpy will allow the Wii to have unique friend lists, advanced matchmaking technology, as well as a comprehensive ranking system. Maybe in addition to games using such software, Nintendo could create an online avatar community. Ahem.
Anyway, Pokémon Battle Revolution will be the first online game for the US (it’s already out in Japan) with release set for June 25th. The game will likely utilize GameSpy and Nintendo technology incorporated long before this announcement.
