A Short Story on the $2 Game Madness at Best Buy…

Published by matthew

Today was supposed to be a pretty awesome day. My plan was to wake up and take the train downtown to drop off some camera equipment from a shoot I did over the weekend, then we would head over to Best Buy for some $2 games…

Not only did we have to wait 30 minutes for the train to come (a train that comes once every 7 minutes at the longest), but the trip to Best Buy was very disappointing. There was not a single decent game available from the list. Nothing. The only game that was worth buying was the Sonic Mega Collection for PS2. Otherwise, there was nothing.

With my spirits crushed, I decided to see if Sonic and the Secret Rings was available. Of course, it wasn’t, so I decided to snag the only remaining item…the price tag.

A very disappointing day indeed. At least I got Mystic River and an out of date price tag out of the deal…

Wii article in Teen Vogue magazine

Published by Christian

Apparently Teen Vogue has a two page article on the Wii in their latest issue. Teen Vogue has a pretty big audience, and one outside of Nintendo’s usual target audience, so this is clearly a good sign.

Now, if Cosmo started advertising for the Wii in an effective way, I’d like to see how that would impact Wii sales!

Leipzig GC Developers Conference dates set

Published by Christian

020726strikerscharged.jpg

This year’s Leipzig GC Developers Conference has been set for August 20-22. What can we expect this year? Last year we were all hoping for the Wii’s launch info - the date, price, colors, what’s in the box, etc. We didn’t get that, but we did get Mario Strikers Charged and Battalion Wars II (BWii) announced and shown for the Wii. Maybe this year we’ll get some surprise hits for the fall that Matt Casamassina was hinting at?

March 4 shaping up to be another Wii launch date

Published by Christian

020726truwii.jpg

I heard rumblings about Best Buy stocking up Wiis in preparation for a March 4th “re-launch,” and it appears Toys ‘R’ Us is doing the same. Also, the games pictured above are 2 for 1! Hit the link below for more details.

The question I’m now pondering, is it impossible to find a Wii because stores are all sold out constantly? Or because stores simply aren’t putting supplies on the store shelves, thus creating the illusion of demand, making people want it more? Because then the sell-out on the re-launch. I mean, I saw a Target stock 5 Wii’s last Tuesday while I was there looking for Sonic, only to see the same case empty when I returned the next day. I wonder what the situation really is.

Art Attack!

Published by matthew

The art section has been fully updated with a bunch of new art, including the Street Fighter II Valentines (calling it art might be a stretch…). While you’re there, you might want to make your desktop sexy with our first wallpaper! Now excuse me as I head over to Best Buy…

Monday Reminders

Published by Christian

020726ocarinaoftime.jpg

Just a reminder to everyone this Monday before I head out for the morning, two big events today.

Starting around 10am, Best Buys across America will be opening to a clearance sale as we reported yesterday, applying to many last gen games including the GameCube and Game Boy Advance.

Also, at 9am PST, you’ll have the opportunity to return to the original 3D Zelda masterpiece when Ocarina of Time hits the Virtual Console. No press release as of yet this morning, so this reminder is all you’re getting!

Star Wars Lightsaber Game by 2010?

Published by matthew

Pointless Waste of Time has put together a list of the “12 Awesomest Games of 2010″ and one of the games just happens to be a Star Wars game:

First of all, this is real Wii swordfighting. Not that half-hearted “flick to activate sword swing #1″ Red Steel crap. Real lightsaber fighting, the glowing blade mapped to your Wiimote.

And it’s every lightsaber battle from all six movies. You lightsaber your way right the damn hell through waves of storm troopers, then the boss battle is some famous duel from the movies. Darth Maul, Count Dooku, that one retarded four-armed robot thing with the completely unprotected heart, all of them, leading up to a climactic duel with Darth Vader.

In the bonus levels you get to switch sides and cut down the good guys.

All I have to say is that I hope we won’t have to wait until 2010 for a friggin’ Star Wars lightsaber game…

Write the Mailbag!

Published by Christian

Hey, everyone! The previous mailbag was a bit too light for our liking, so please help us stuff the mailbag full by submitting your questions and comments! At this point, we don’t discard any submissions as we have no reason to filter out yet, so feel free to submit anything - questions or comments about the Wii, the DS, about Nintendo as a company, all the Super Mario Bros. 3 memorabilia you heard about from 15 years ago, or what The Tanooki’s staff ate for lunch while waiting in line for the Wii.

Seriously, we’ll answer nearly anything you submit to us! Just head to the submission page and toss it our way. We please ask that for the time being, you specify somewhere that the submission is specifically for the mailbag. Hopefully we’ll be able to pump out a new set of mailbag responses soon!

A plethora of games going on $1.99 clearance at Best Buy

Published by Christian

020724bestbuy.jpg

I hope everyone has a Best Buy within reach tomorrow. On Monday, February 26, Best Buy will be putting out about a dozen pages worth of games on clearance tomorrow. The biggest portion of games seem to be $1.99, though some are $4.99 and $9.99. Scootinger’s Blog lists this as rumor, but I just verified it with my local Best Buy. In fact, while Scootinger’s Blog has about 10 pages scanned and posted (as well as typed out), my local Best Buy claims the list was upped to about 13 pages.

The clearance sale lasts for tomorrow only. Head to Scootinger’s Blog for the full list, either in the form of 10 pictures, or scroll down to read the whole list typed out by system and alphabetical. You can just continue reading after the break, however, for games on Nintendo platforms.
