Sonic for the Wii was almost a port of Sonic Next-Gen
Thank goodness. According to a recent interview with Sonic Team producer Yojiro Ogawa, the team was originally going to port the Sonic the Hedgehog game, now on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, to the Wii. However, due to the radically different control mechanisms of the Wii remote in comparison to the 360 and PS3 game pads, they eventually decided to do a whole new game.
It’s a blessing in disguise, people. We’ve all heard about how Sonic the Hedgehog for the 360 and PS3 didn’t result in that great of a product. Turns out they had huge ambitions for the game, but had to rush it to completion to have the game out on the 360 by Christmas. Playing through Secret Rings, I definately felt as if there’s hope for future 3D Sonic games to improve further and bring the series back to its former glory, a feeling I’m pretty sure most owners of Sonic Next-Gen didn’t have.
