Koji Kondo and Video Game Live to perform at GDC

In addition to Mr. Koji Kondo’s speech at GDC, entitled “Painting an Interactive Musical Landscape,” it appears he will be performing on the last night of the conference as well.

Video Games Live will perform at the Nob Hill Masonic Auditorium on the last night of the conference, March 9, at 8p.m. Mr. Kondo will make an appearance at the concert to perform one of his favorite songs. Mr. Koji Kondo, as many of you know, is responsible for most of the music from the Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda series. In fact, I’ve been working on a big article for weeks on his music, being a music education major and all. Bringing Video Games Live to the GDC is a perfect fit, and adds a little bit more to the conference to appeal to the right side of everyone’s noggins.

I had the opportunity to attend a different video game concert at one point when I saw tickets for the Chicago stop of PLAY! were still available. Not only was Koji Kondo there (the above picture is from his performance), but so was Nobuo Uematsu of Final Fantasy music fame. In addition, I believe that was the premiere of the English version of Angela Aki’s “Kiss Me Good-Bye” from Final Fantasy XII, which I personally love (I love both versions of that song, actually). Unfortunately, most of my friends didn’t play video games at the time (most still don’t, but I’m working on changing that), so I couldn’t find many people interested in going with me. The one or two people I did find ended up having something else that weekend, so unfortunately I didn’t go.
