TG Daily’s Mark Raby look at all the digital download services available on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii, and comes to the conclusion that the Wii offers the best service. Of course, the claim applies not necessarily in terms of overall content and features, but moreso to the fact that the service has potential in both of those areas, and is currently and is likely to remain the easiest service among the three to use.
In terms of operability and ease of use, the Wii really takes the cake, and it highlights Nintendo’s philosophy with the console. The Xbox Live Marketplace and Playstation Store are cumbersome and sometimes difficult to navigate. That being said, I would like to see things like game demos and trailers, which have always been available on the PS3 and Xbox 360, in the Wii Shop. I also think Nintendo needs to experiment with games produced exclusively for the Virtual Console. These are things that may or may not come later, but regardless, it is the backbone of the Wii Shop service that makes it more attractive than its competitors.
While I and many of you are disappointed with many missed opportunities thus far with Nintendo’s limited online capabilities with the Wii, the fact is that it offers what it has promised, and does so in a simple, self-explanatory manner that doesn’t frustrate the user. Nintendo has the simplicity and the games with their system, things which Sony and Microsoft can’t exactly match. Hit the link for the rest of the article.
