Apparently, GameStop hasn’t gotten enough people to trade in their copies of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. People are holding on to them. Go figure.
Joystiq is reporting that GameStop has resorted to calling their customers’ phone numbers, letting everyone know that Twilight Princess now has a $35 trade-in value, and that if they’re done with the game, they should bring it in.
GameStop sells new games, yes, but most of their business relies on used game sales. Why? Nintendo keeps a large portion of initial game sales. When a used game is sold back to the store for, say, $35, GameStop can sell it again for $45 and gain that $10 back in profit – a much larger figure than what they get from the game’s initial sale.
Normally, they do just fine with what customers just naturally bring back. However, it seems people are holding on to their copies of Zelda, and GameStop is eager to snag some of the million-plus copies of the popular game in time to sell them back to the next wave of Wii owners.
