Miyamoto receives Lifetime Achievement Award at GDC
It appears that Shigeru Miyamoto has finally been nominated for GDC’s Lifetime Achievement Award for his constant contributions to the video game industry. He will be handed his award by Tim Schafer on March 7th at the Game Developer’s Conference. Previous winners of this award include Sega’s Yuji Naka (father of Sonic) and Gunpei Yokoi (Game & Watch, Game Boy).
I don’t know though. If you were offered a Lifetime Achievement Award, would you take it? Someone I know once put it best: “Congratulations, we think you’ve reached the point in your life where you’ve given all that you can give, and there’s nothing else left to do!” I don’t think I’d ever accept such an award. Not for anymore than formalities, at least.
