IGN has uncovered a patent filed for by Nintendo back in 2001. While the patent was only finally issued this past June, the fact that it was filed for in 2001 backs the obvious statement that the patent is quite a bit outdated. In addition, Nintendo files countless patents all the time, so it is very likely that it was never a serious project. It’s safe to say that this particular design will never see retail shelves.

However, the fact is, Nintendo did have designs for a such a device. If Nintendo had ideas for a gaming phone as pictured back in 2001, imagine what kind of secret devices they could be cooking up at this very moment!
