Does the Wii have strong enough legs?

Sure, the Wii’s pushing strong now. But it’s only the first few innings. Will the Wii last its lifespan? Does it have the stamina to hold off the PS3 and 360 long enough before it can fully establish itself?

With record high sales you would think that the Wii may become the number one console on the market. But remember the Gamecube also came out of the gate strongly with over 1.2 million consoles sold in a month, but as of December 2006, the Gamecube has only sold 21.5 million units worldwide, compared to the PS2’s million plus sales in a month, and over 111 million worldwide to date. Could the Wii suffer the same rise and fall its predecessor had?

Head over to PlayStation Universe to see some of the good points they make. Wii owners should be proud of what Nintendo has unleashed upon the gaming world, but mustn’t be ignorant of the potential worries that Nintendo’s decisions with the Wii might bring.

The thing is what Playstation universe is doing is just trying to get people to not forget about the Ps3 before the few hits come out for it. I agree that the Wii will have drawbacks, but EVERY system has and EVERY system will in the future its just how it works. The thing about this time for Nintendo is they learned from the Gamecube they have in separate accounts admitted that the Gamecube was a failure and learned greatly from it. I don’t see the Wii being only a splash hit I see it being in here for the long haul.

Very good point. I actually believe Nintendo has learned from the N64 and GCN mistakes.

It’s evident just by looking at how different the Wii is from the other 2. The gamecube was nothing special except a less powerful console with an awkward controller for some games…

The only huge downfall of the Wii is the graphics. I personally do not care about graphics…but most of the world does. Tisk tisk…

Actually, the GameCube was far more powerful than the PlayStation 2, and it rivaled the Xbox in terms of technical power. So it definately could have been a contender last generation. Its downfall was in the lack of software and its poor public image.

I wouldn’t say FAR more powerful..either way, we know developers hardly took advantage of the gamecube’s features…actually, they just really didn’t choose to take advantage of the gamecube. period.

Yeah that was the Gamecubes true downfall was the lack of 3rd party developers. But if you search around you’ll see that many developers love the Wii for many reasons. First is its something new to do for them developing games with motion and all. Second its cheaper to develope games for the Wii. On 360 and worse off Ps3 it costs more to develope the games in HD. Ps3 is worse because Sony is the only company making the Blu-Ray discs so the developers have to buy them from Sony (Hello double profit). So developers love money (who doesn’t) so they want to make as much as they can and the Wii is the system to do that on.
