Nintendo lies to European consumers?

A blogger by the name of Blork has a seemingly uncommon problem with his PAL-region Wii and its Virtual Console games: most of them don’t work with component cables. He was using third party cables, but others who reported the same problem were using official cables. After contacting Nintendo, the company said they would not help resolve the problem since Nintendo had not released official component cables. Was someone misinformed? Or did Nintendo lie just to get the question off their backs? It’s extremely likely Nintendo knows about the problem, and it should be easily fixed with a firmware upgrade, as VC games work with component cables in every other region.

Having heard wonderful things about their customer service (at least in the US), I was very taken aback by this blatant lie from Nintendo. They could have least fobbed me off with a “3rd party accessories are not supported” line. But no, they chose to lie to me. After many frustrating emails to them, I decided to ask for a refund for the 2 games – I was unable to use them, and was not notified that this could be the case. To me, this is a break of the sale of goods act. They refused.
