Nintendo Color TV Games

Nintendo tested out the home video game market way before the days of the Famicom, back when they were still primarily in the arcade business. Nintendo Database has a section up covering their “Color TV Games” where each unit plugged into the TV, and each had their own, separate game that could be played with multiple varieties.

System: Color TV Game 6
Developer: Nintendo
Genre: Light Tennis
Save: None
Releases: 1977

Color TV Game 6 was the first of Nintendo’s four Color TV systems, and so is officially Nintendo’s first home console. The processor for the system was developed by Mitsubishi, as Nintendo lacked the technology and funding to work on their own.

The game played six variations of “Light Tennis” (Pong). Two small dial controllers allowed two players to play the game at the same time.

The Color TV Game 6 was very popular in Japan and sold over a million copies.

Nintendo Database has a few more of these Color TV Games described on their website, so check them out!
