Europe close to banning violent video games
A portion of an article from FT.com:
Several scientific studies claim to show a link between sadistic games and violent behaviour. The strong condemnation of violent computer games by the Union’s justice and interior ministers at a meeting in Dresden yesterday highlighted the increasingly hostile environment faced by the industry.
Now, I don’t know if I agree with the studies. Scientists always leave out key factors. Tons of people play video games, some violent some not. Even those crazy insane people that end up on shooting sprees. Just because they happen to play games too and play games that match their interests doesn’t mean a ban should be put on ALL violent games. Sure, I’m not big on violent games anyway, but heaven forbid a correlation existing between what games are out there and what games specific criminals happen to like.
Heck, if we Nintendo fans were seriously affected in a similar way by the games we play, we’d be swinging swords, shooting arrows, or finding some way to throw fire at people. Or maybe we jumped on the kids we didn’t like during elementary school recess. That happened last week, didn’t it?
