Could Nintendo do more with the DS?
Flame War Advance has written up an article wondering if Nintendo could do more with the DS, since it’s already such a huge success and yet still has so much potential. Why not music? Videos? Channels a la the Wii? I personally would like to see Texas Instruments make a graphing calculator for it. The DS is certainly powerful enough, could handle touch screen inputs, and wouldn’t require me to keep this bulky old TI-84 in my desk drawer. But that’s just something I thought up back in my old Calculus and Statistics classes I took around the time of the (first) DS launch. Excerpt below:
The word “console” just doesn’t do the DS justice any more … what it is, is a phenomenon. An ingenious device that has accelerated the growth of the gaming industry as a whole at an alarming rate, causing developers to throw all pre-conceived notions they cradled about portable out the window. Clearly, Nintendo doesn’t need to worry about incurring losses. Even in a worst case scenario where the Wii tanks, the DS will still stand strong, ready to pick up the slack. The system has been marketed with enough ferocity to keep it going strong even a couple of years from now.
